“They are us”
Two weeks ago I cycled home along the North side of the Liffey and saw a sprayer doing some 2x8m piece of art. I stopped and had a look and said hello. He was there with an empty beer tray to stand on and an enormous bag of spray paint. When I asked him, what he’ll do when the police comes he said: it’s legal. Aha. And then he explained me that he’s doing a project with a friend and wants to raise 50.000€ for charity. They are aiming to buy a mobile ambulance for the homeless people of Dublin. They want to do around 20 spraying sites, do some signed reprints of a couple of them and sell them then as well. Good stuff. The project is called “They are us” and is running since a few months now.
At home I had a look and found out that the guy I just met is one of the most active sprayers in whole Dublin – Maser. Unfortunately I didn’t realized it at this moment. I would have when he would have introduced himself as Maser, but just told me his first name ;-)
(I wouldn’t expect other sprayers to tell me their given name, I must say. ;-)
You can have a look at all his work on flickr, or especially at the They Are Us pictures. I came by this piece when it was around that stage.
Nice to have met the fella. And I like the idea of his project. Hope he can raise the money that he’s looking for. I’ll definitely have my eyes open if I can find some of his works around the city now.
